Our History
Mid-Late 1800s
Malcolm McCrimmon worked as a furniture upholsterer, manufacturer, and retailer on King Street near Talbot Street, and on the corner of Pall Mall & Maitland Street in London, Ontario.
Late 1800s
Instead of taking over his father’s business, Malcolm’s son went into partnership with Brickenden to create Brickenden & McCrimmon. They were a wholesaler of upholstery fabric, dry goods and accessories. Brickenden & McCrimmon was located on York Street until 1929, selling to Northeastern USA and Ontario.
1960
Furniture business began as Ian McCrimmon entered the furniture wholesaler industry.
1977
Alexanders was a furniture store founded by Ian McCrimmon located at 1801 Dundas Street.
1987
Sofa Gallery: From Alexander’s, Ian’s son Rob opened the Sofa Gallery in 1987 in the present-day location of Austin & Taylor.
1993
Michael Roberts: For 15 years, the family owned and operated Michael Roberts Fine Furniture until 2008 on the corner of Fanshawe Park Road and Wonderland Road.
2010
Austin & Taylor Home Furnishings was opened by Rob McCrimmon.
